Space Jam 2 is currently still in post-production and isn't set for release until July 2021. Nonetheless, the plot of the highly-anticipated follow up film starring Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has just surfaced, and it sounds bonkers — in a good way, of course.

Writer/director Ben Mekler shared the juicy details on Twitter:

Officially entitled “Space Jam: A New Legacy”, the upcoming action-animated film is a follow up to the original Space Jam movie released back in 1996. More than two decades later, LeBron follows in the footsteps of the great Michael Jordan, as he takes on arguably the most iconic basketball movie franchise of all time.

Similar to the original movie's plot, the LeBron-led sequel will also have the Lakers star trapped in the wacky world of Bugs Bunny and Co. The writers have thrown in the bit about “iconic movie scenes and characters”, which is a unique twist to the second installment.

It is also worth noting that along with LeBron James, the plot also centers around his son. It remains unclear if any of his real sons are included in the picture or if they will be played by actors. For what it's worth, Jordan's real kids were not in the original Space Jam film, so perhaps this is also going to be the case for the sequel.

Be that as it may, we will all still get to see other prominent basketball personalities in the second Space Jam film, including LeBron's Lakers teammate Anthony Davis, and Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson, among others.
