Toronto Raptors shooting guard Danny Green has drawn the unenviable task of containing James Harden in Saturday's matchup against the Houston Rockets. Harden is always a tough player to check, but the fact that he dropped a career-high 61 points against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night makes this matchup a bit more intriguing.
Following Wednesday night's 110-106 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Green spoke to reporters about guarding Harden:
“I heard he had 61 tonight, so I'm looking forward to guarding that in a couple of days,” Green said with a smile. “I'll try to find a way to contain him.
“He's great at using his body,” the Raptors star added. “He knows how to draw fouls. You can't use your hands the way you want to (against him). It's hard to play defense without your hands. He shoots the ball well from beyond the arc. He's gonna keep attacking, keep getting to the basket. And he's a lefty. He's very good with his Euro-step, and he's a lefty. Lefty's are hard to guard. So we'll try our best to limit and contain him as much as possible.”
Harden not only notched his career high with 61 points, but he also tied Kobe Bryant's record for a visiting player at the current Madison Square Garden.
Friday night's Raptors-Rockets game is scheduled to tip inside the Toyota Center at 8:00 p.m. ET, with ESPN having live broadcast coverage. Let's see if Green can hold Harden to a reasonable number of points.
