Former NBA swingman and current ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson has developed a reputation as a funny man, especially in retirement. He showed that side of him again on Wednesday, but at the expense of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul.

In an appearance on The Jump, Jefferson goaded Paul on his birthday, saying he would give Paul his NBA championship ring for $44 million.

The comment stemmed from a question of whether Paul would consider waiving the $44 million he is owed next year in order to join a championship contender.

While $44 million is quite the hefty sum of money, Richard Jefferson alluded to the one thing Chris Paul has yet to achieve during his NBA career: win a championship.

Jefferson had gone the majority of his own career without a championship prior to landing with the Cleveland Cavaliers during their historic 2016 campaign. However, he also had the good fortune of mostly being a role player for a team led by LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

Paul has not had the same fortune. Rather, his NBA postseason track record has been marked by a number of disappointments and injuries.

CP3's best chance to win a title was most likely in 2018, when the Houston Rockets led the Golden State Warriors 3-2 in the Western Conference Finals. But Paul was injured during Game 6, and he did not play in Game 7 as the Rockets laid an egg.

Despite being one of the best leaders and clutch players in the NBA this year, Paul is unlikely to lead the Thunder to a title. Is it possible he would opt out in pursuit of a title?

Probably not, though Jefferson — in all his trolling glory — would probably love a cool $44 million.
