The Houston Rockets are among the NBA teams that can open their practice facility on Friday.

However, they won't do so.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Rockets are going to wait until May 18th in accordance with the decision of Texas Governor Greg Abbott to allow gyms to re-open statewide that day.

The NBA notified all 30 teams on Tuesday that they intend to allow practice facilities in states where shelter-in-place regulations have been eased to reopen on Friday.

The NBA suspended the 2019-20 season in March after Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. The league shut down practice facilities on March 20th after the Golden State Warriors were the first team to do so. The NBA also prohibited players from using public health clubs, fitness centers, gyms and college facilities.

NBA owners are hopeful of resuming games in the summer and then finishing the season in September. The 2020-21 season could start on Christmas if everything plays out properly, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

To recall, the 2011-12 lockout season started on Christmas Day.

NBA owners and team presidents are estimating a loss of around $1-to-2 billion if the season gets canceled altogether. The NBA and its players recently agreed to reduce paychecks by 25 percent starting on May 15th.

Before the season was suspended, the Rockets were in sixth place in the Western Conference standings with an overall record of 40-24.
