NBA legend and overall fun guy Shaquille O'Neal once pretended to be a cop to make Darius Miles late for practice when he was still a rookie with the L.A. Clippers.

Miles recounted one day when he was running late for practice. Suddenly, an unmarked police truck was right by him. Miles knew he was speeding so he pulled over and rolled his windows down. Miles then narrated the whole story in part, via The Players' Tribune:

I knew I was speeding. So I pull over, and I roll the window down, and I’m reaching over into the glove compartment to get my papers ….

… Then I hear this voice. Big, booming voice.

“WHERE YOU G’WAN, BOY?”

I’m like, Damn, they got the sergeant on me or something?

I turn to look out the window, and I can’t even see this dude’s face he’s so big. All I see is his chest.

Miles continued his story. As it turned out, the cop was none other than O'Neal himself, who was playing for the Lakers during that time. From his story, O'Neal intentionally stopped Miles just do fool around with him. He simply wanted Miles to holler at him and offered to pay his fine.

“It’s Shaq.

I’m like, “Yo! I’m going to practice! You made me late!”

He don’t miss a beat. He taps side of my truck, turns around and says, “Don’t worry about it. I’ll pay your fine. Just holler at me.”

From time to time, NBA players — both past and present — share stories about O'Neal's trolling and good times. Miles himself was not fortunate enough to have a long career in the NBA. But his memory featuring one of the brightest personalities in league history sure made his stay worth every second.
