With the Los Angeles Lakers serving as the defending NBA Champions, every other franchise from around the league has been set on attempting to dethrone superstar forward LeBron James, All-Star big man Anthony Davis and company. With the new-look Brooklyn Nets probably doing the best job of putting together a roster that can keep up with “King James” and the Lakers, there is absolutely no doubt yet another “super team” among the NBA elite.
However, well-known ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith is none too pleased with the notion that the NBA is now pumping out “super team” one after another, while the longtime New York Knicks fan blames the aforementioned LeBron James for this ongoing trend — one with no end in sight, either.
Smith Blames LeBron James for Super Teams
Of course, LeBron James initially decided to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat back in 2010-11. As a result of this trio creating one of the most notable modern-day “super teams,” the Heat went to four consecutive Eastern Conference Finals en route to winning a pair of NBA titles in the process. LeBron James then returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers while drawing the likes of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving to his hometown team, again winning a championship.
On the flip side, though, current Nets forward Kevin Durant has since teamed up with a former teammate of James' in Irving as Brooklyn has quickly turned into a powerhouse of a “super team”. With seemingly every well-known NBA player having since joined the Nets, Durant has now assembled his second “super team” after previously making his way from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors. Durant won a pair of titles with the Warriors before ultimately moving on to Brooklyn ahead of last season.
