Steve Nash, a former NBA player and two-time back-to-back MVP with the Phoenix Suns, will finally get his chance to give some analysis on television.

But there's a catch: It won't be about basketball.

Nash and Turner are close on a deal that would make him an analyst in soccer, according to a report by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.

Sources told The Post that Nash would be a studio analyst, among other potential roles, on coverage of the UEFA Champions League coverage, which switches from Fox Sports to Turner’s TNT, TBS, TruTV and a yet-to-be-named streaming service next year. The Champions League is the top club tournament in the world, featuring teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Marchand also wrote that there are no current plans for Nash to do any NBA coverage for the network responsible for “Inside the NBA.”

The fact that Nash is on the verge of getting a gig like this makes a ton of sense. He grew up playing soccer, and was quite good at it. There are many who think he could have had a successful professional career as a soccer player.

But he was inspired by Michael Jordan and chose to try his hand at basketball. But there were moments he showed some of his soccer prowess on the basketball court.

Nash would make an excellent commentator for the game of soccer. He was even part of an investment group in 2016 that bought the Spanish team Real Mallorca. So he has his hands in many things soccer as it is.

But there are certainly a significant amount of people that would love to see Nash give his thoughts on basketball as well. Maybe his role with Turner will grow over time and that will happen eventually.

For now, soccer it is.
