This year's NBA playoffs has had its fair share of intrigue thus far. Things could get much more interesting if the Houston Rockets can manage to force the Golden State Warriors to go to a Game 7.
Both the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers were able to keep their playoff hopes alive by evening the respective series with a win in Game 6. According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the NBA could have three Game 7's in one day for just the second time in NBA history if the Rockets force a Game 7:
If Houston beats Golden State tomorrow night, we will see three Game 7s on the same day — Sunday — for just the second time in league history
This is certainly an interesting development for this year's postseason. The first time this happened was just five years ago in 2014 when three Game 7's were played on May 3. Unlike the previous occurrence, this outcome could have quite a bearing on which teams can legitimately go on to win a title.
The prospect of Houston and Golden State going to Game 7 is certainly not too far-fetched. They already proved to be more than capable of it after doing so in last year's Western Conference Finals. Their chances certainly bode well with forward Kevin Durant expected to miss the rest of the series with a calf strain.
The Warriors are now as vulnerable as ever with Durant out. If the Rockets can find a way to swing momentum back to their side, the NBA could very well be crowning a new champion this year.
