Ted Cruz is firing back at an NBA blogger who made a joke at his expense. The Texas senator replied to the online remarks with a meme of Baby Yoda, a fictional character who appears on The Mandalorian from Disney+.

The conversation started with a message from Nitz Bluv of The Athletic, who joked that “we are one corny politician away from Baby Yoda being ruined.” Duncan Smith of Forbes saw Nitz's tweet and decided to reply, saying: “It’s going to be Ted Cruz and I’m furious just thinking about it.”

Surprisingly, Cruz (or his social media team) saw this thread and decided to post a meme of Baby Yoda sipping from a mug in the comment section.

Cruz, who claims to be a lifelong supporter of the Houston Rockets, made headlines earlier this season when he tweeted out opinions about the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. Cruz noted that he was proud of Rockets owner Daryl Morey for taking a stance on the issue.

In 2018, Rockets fans created the #CruzCurse hashtag. While in attendance at a playoff game against the Golden State Warriors, the Senator posted a selfie near court side to show his support of the team. However, this tweet was met with a negative response, and some fans of the team actually blamed him for the the loss.

It's not clear what Cruz intended when posting the Baby Yoda meme. Could it be a signal for what's to come in the next presidential election?
