And the feud between the NBA, the United States of America and China continues. Just as you thought things were simmering down with Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey avoiding comment on the situation since his infamous tweet regarding support of pro-democracy supporters in Hong Kong, a United States senator is now getting in on the topic.

United States Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) chimed his opinion on the situation after commissioner Adam Silver revealed that China had asked the NBA to fire Morey.

U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement regarding NBA commissioner Adam Silver's announcement that China asked the NBA to fire Daryl Morey, the general manager of the Houston Rockets, for his tweet in support of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.”

“It's good that Morey still has his job and the NBA deserves credit there. Let's put this in perspective through. When an American citizen stands for basic human rights, the Chinese Communist Party tries to get him fired. But when a Chinese citizen stands for basic human rights, the Chinese Communist Party has a way of making them disappear.”

This situation has taken many turns over recent weeks since Morey's initial tweet. In fact, there was a fire lit under this topic when Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James criticized Morey for being uninformed, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.

“I don't want to get into a [verbal] feud with Daryl Morey, but I believe he wasn't educated on the situation at hand, and he spoke,” said James. “And so many people could have been harmed not only financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually. So just be careful what we tweet and say and we do, even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech, but there can be a lot of negative that comes with that, too.”

Needless to say, Morey's tweet may have been posted two weeks ago, but the topic isn't dying down anytime soon.
