Several players including LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, have taped up their sleeves during practices. What's the reason behind it?

The Lakers have sent out videos of James' first practice sessions in their gym. As observed, James has his sleeves rolled up and taped:

Though the answer seems pretty obvious, a curious Redditor by the name of u/SonicTrout asked the question. He initially believed that it was some sort of fashion statement.

“Why do nba players and other basketball players tape there sleeves.

I see more and more players starting to take sleeveless shirts, is this just a fashion statement thing or does it serve a purpose”

His question was answered by Redditor [DEN] Nikola Jokic, who is, by the way, not the NBA player. Players tape up the sleeves to allow more movement, just like in the real game where they don sleeveless jerseys:

“You mean taping up a Jersey like that? Freedom of movement, if I had to guess.”

Redditor LuffyDBlackMamba420 also offered an answer:

“Probably so [their] shoulders don't get caught up in it. They do play in sleevess jerseys normally and probably just don't like the restrictions of a T shirt.”

If there's one player who likes the comfort that sleeveless shirts bring, it's definitely James. And when the sleeved variant of jerseys came out, James famously ripped it off out of discomfort and frustration.
