Brooklyn Nets forward Wilson Chandler came to the defense of teammate Kyrie Irving on Wednesday after former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins labeled Irving as “bird brain.”

Chandler fired back with a subliminal tweet directed at Perkins, saying “Ex players turning into suckers right before your eyes on television.”

The 12-year veteran also said Perkins' words do far more to divide than unite as the NBA hopes to put the final touches on a return-to-play plan.

Irving is the VP of the NBPA, and he has also been among the most vocal skeptics in terms of a potential return to the hardwood.

The All-Star point guard also reportedly suggested to Nets players they should consider starting their own league.

Perkins argued Kyrie's intentions were far from pure. He claimed the only reason Irving — who is rehabbing from shoulder surgery — disputed the return-to-play plan was because the NBA said he could not travel to Orlando with teammates.

Wilson Chandler, however, feels Kendrick Perkins' words are more divisive rather than constructive. Indeed, Kyrie Irving is hardly the only player to voice concerns about the “bubble” in Orlando.

Players like Avery Bradley and Dwight Howard have both suggested for NBA players to consider prioritizing the impact they could have in the current social climate rather than resuming the season.

At the same time, it seems the players are merely trying to come up with a collective decision and consider all factors. For what it's worth, the Los Angeles Times reported that Howard still intends to play in a restart despite his concerns.

Kyrie certainly has been vocal as of late, but Chandler feels much of the scrutiny is unwarranted as NBA players attempt to hash things out.
