While the competition itself will be a first for the NBA, it's also being held for relief purposes. State Farm will sponsor the event and will donate more than $200,000 on behalf of the participants in the HORSE competition.

“State Farm will donate more than $200,000 on behalf of the participants to charities focused on coronavirus response efforts. This donation builds on the more than $74 million that has been contributed by the NBA Family to date to support coronavirus relief efforts through its NBA Together campaign.”

The league suspended its season on March 10 upon Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert testing positive for coronavirus. Since then, the league has yet to announce when it will resume play.

Considering there is no live basketball at the current moment, the HORSE competition should entertain NBA fans for the time being.
