After a colorful 17-year career in the NBA, two-time All-Star big man Zach Randolph announced his retirement on Friday ā€” something that he made official on Twitter by posting a heart-felt message of thanks to everyone who took part in his journey in the league.

It is worth noting that not only did Zach Randolph choose a photo of himself in a Memphis Grizzlies uniform, but he also singled out the team as the one closest to his heart. The 6-foot-9 big man played eight seasons in Memphis ā€” his longest stint among the five teams he suited up for ā€” and this is arguably where he played the best basketball of his career. During his time with the Grizzlies, Randolph averaged 16.8 points (on 47.6 percent shooting), 10.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.8 steals. This was where he would establish himself as one of the most dominant bigs in the league, and in the process getting two All-Star nods along the way.

In his message, Randolph also made special mention of the Portland Trail Blazers, who selected him 19th overall in the 2001 NBA Draft. This was where he would cut his teeth as an up-and-coming youngster before the team decided to trade him to the New York Knicks after six seasons in Portland.

Over the next couple of seasons, Zach Randolph would have brief spells with the Knicks and the Los Angeles Clippers, before eventually landing with the Grizzlies in 2009. Eight years later, the team would offload him to the Sacramento Kings, where he would play one final season before being traded and immediately waived by the Dallas Mavericks in the middle of last season.

Our congratulations go out to Zach Randoplh for a memorable career, and all the best in his life after the NBA.
