The 2017 NBA All-Star game will take place on February 19th. While the date has been determined, the location is still up in the air.

The NBA had announced that the game would take place in Charlotte, North Carolina. That was before the “bathroom bill” had been passed in the state. The NBA does not support this bill and what it says. Because of this, they are threatening to move the game out of North Carolina if the bill is not amended.

This is an unusual circumstance and puts the NBA into a difficult situation. Their options are limited and time is not on their side. At the Board of Governors news conference, commissioner Adam Silver admitted that a decision has not been made on whether the All-Star game will be moved, and he said “the calendar is not our friend”.

It is important that the NBA makes a decision quickly because it is not as easy task to put on an All-Star game; ample time for preparation is required. Other cities would obviously be interested and the NBA will not have trouble finding other suitors for the All-Star festivities should they choose to make the move.

NBA All-Star weekend has had its ups and downs over the past 20 years. It was extremely popular and exciting in its heyday, but at points, it has seemed a bit watered down.
