The Memphis Grizzlies will take on the Denver Nuggets in a matchup of potential playoff teams. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Grizzlies-Nuggets prediction and pick.

The Grizzlies have quickly turned into one of the hottest teams in the NBA. They've won 12 of their last 14 games, including contests against the Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and the Phoenix Suns. Their recent winning streak has placed them in the third seed in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Nuggets haven't had nearly the same level of success in their recent play. Denver is 3-2 in their last five contests, including a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. A win against the streaking Grizzlies could help the Nuggets get back on track and back into the postseason picture.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

Memphis is one of the hottest teams in the league, largely because of their offensive production. They've scored 110 points or more in 12 of their last 14 games, which is an absolutely insane achievement. This is one of the league's best offenses, and it will show against this middling Nuggets defense. Denver allows their opponents to shoot 46% from the field while also giving up one of the highest shooting efficiency numbers in all of basketball. Expect Memphis to score plenty of points in this one.

While it's true that the Grizzlies have been an average team on the defensive side of the ball, that should be more than enough to deal with the Nuggets. Denver has had their fair struggles on the offensive end, as shown by their 107 points per game and 34% three-point percentage. Memphis has been mediocre at just about everything on defense, but this still isn't an intimidating matchup for the Grizzlies.

Why The Nuggets Could Cover The Spread

Despite their poor points per game average, this Denver offense is still a somewhat dangerous one. They rank inside the top five in the NBA in terms of effective field goal percentage, two-point shooting percentage, and overall shooting efficiency. The Grizzlies have been involved in a number of high-scoring affairs recently, giving up 119 points to the Los Angeles Lakers and 126 points to the Milwaukee Bucks. Memphis is far from untouchable, particularly on defense.

The Grizzlies will be entering this game shorthanded. Starting shooting guard Desmond Bane will miss this contest because of COVID protocols, and key backups Tyus Jones and Kyle Anderson will both likely sit this game out. All three of those guys play a key role for the Grizzlies, so playing without them won't be easy. Third-string players De'Anthony Melton and John Konchar will be forced to take on huge roles in this contest. Neither player is averaging more than 25 minutes per game, so their inexperience and worse play will likely give Denver a leg up in this contest.

Final Grizzlies-Nuggets Prediction & Pick

This is a strange line. The Grizzlies are the closest thing you can get to a lock in this game, unless they're suddenly racked with COVID-related issues throughout the day leading up to the game. Barring a huge outbreak in the locker room, nothing should stop you from picking Memphis.
