Why The Heat Can Cover The Spread

While the Heat will be without Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, they are still capable of pulling out the win here as a veteran team. Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro will likely handle most of the ball-handling duties, while Duncan Robinson will continue to space the floor on the perimeter. The Heat will also be without Markieff Morris on Friday, so they will need guys like Dewayne Dedmon and PJ Tucker to step up in this one.

Miami is really short-handed in this one but they do have their backcourt. Lowry and Herro will both need to have big games if the Heat are going to pull off a road win without their best two players. Miami is 7-6 on the road so far this season, and 13-9 against the spread. This Heat team that will be taking the court Friday is not that Heat team, however. The absences of Butler and Adebayo are massive on both ends of the court and cannot be understated.

Why The Pacers Cover The Spread

Indiana enters this one losers of four of their last five, so they really need a win here vs. a short-handed Heat team. The Pacers are 6-5 at home this season, and should be in good position to pick up a win after a pair of hard-fought losses in their last two games. Justin Holiday, T.J. McConnell and T.J. Warren will be out for the Pacers. Indiana should have a clear edge in the frontcourt with Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner going against Miami's backup centers. Sabonis and Turner are one of the better big man duos in the league, and should present Miami's frontcourt some serious issues.

Malcolm Brogdon will look to match Kyle Lowry in the backcourt, as the Pacers should be in good position to snap their three-game losing streak here. Laying this many points with a struggling team does seem a bit risky, however. Miami was blown out by the Cleveland Cavaliers playing short-handed on Wednesday, so the Pacers might be able to cover the spread despite their recent struggles.

Final Heat-Pacers Prediction & Pick

Take the Pacers to cover and win vs. a banged up Miami team on Friday night. The Heat rely on Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo quite a bit on both ends of the floor, so it will be difficult for them to succeed with both of them out. Indiana is a little better than their record would suggest, as they actually have a positive point differential this season despite being six games under .500.

FINAL HEAT-PACER PREDICTION & PICK: Pacers -5.5 (-106)
