Why The Heat Can Cover The Spread

The Heat come into this one as the clear better team. Miami is primed for a deep run in the postseason if they can remain healthy, while the Pistons are in the midst of what is essentially a tanking season. Detroit will compete hard, but they simply don't have the roster to win consistently. The Heat have not been a good road team, however, as they are just 5-5 away from home on the season. The Pistons may be able to keep this one somewhat in reach, which leaves way for the backdoor cover if and when the Heat pull their regulars. Miami should still be in decent position for a cover, as they are much more efficient that Detroit on both ends of the court.

Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry have made for a very good ‘big 3' so far for the Heat this season, with contributors like PJ Tucker, Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson making Miami a true threat to do damage in the East.

The Heat are 12-5 against the spread this season.

Why The Pistons Can Cover The Spread

Detroit has won just three of their last ten games, but that may be an improvement compared to how they started the season. The Pistons are the No. 14 seed in the Eastern Conference heading into Tuesday, as they are ahead of only the Orlando Magic. They will face an uphill battle in search for a win vs. a good Heat team on Tuesday, but a cover may be in play. Detroit is 7-9 against the spread this season, and has covered in three straight home games. Detroit is 2-7 at home this season compared to 2-5 on the road. The Pistons have the second worst point differential in the East at -8.7.

Final Heat-Pistons Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty tough pick, as the Heat haven't been juggernauts exactly on the road. The Pistons haven't been good anywhere, though, so take the Heat to win and cover in Detroit on Tuesday. Miami should be able to control this game with their experience and talent advantage. They have better defenders, better scorers and more experienced players in their rotation top-to-bottom compared to a young, struggling Pistons group.

FINAL HEAT-PISTONS PREDICTION & PICK: Heat -10 (-110)
