Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

The Brooklyn Nets have had a wild year so far. They have faced adversity of all sorts, injuries, COVID, controversy, you name it. Through it all, they have managed to secure a winning record and are looking to make a run in the playoffs. Through their first 50 games, the Nets have won 29 and have lost 21. Their most recent loss came against the Phoenix Suns by 10. Brooklyn will look to bounce back and snatch their first win in two weeks on Wednesday. The Kings are a weak opponent and so Brooklyn has a real shot of taking this one. Expect the Nets to come out firing and to get back on track on Wednesday.

The Nets came up short against one of the best teams in the league. Without KD, Brooklyn can't be blamed for losing to Phoenix, however, the game should have been closer. With both James Harden and Kyrie Irving on the floor, the Nets should be able to compete at a higher level. Part of the reason Brooklyn lost was because Phoenix went off and had a great game. But on top of that, no one on the Nets stepped up. Harden and Kyrie combined for 48 points and only two other players scored in the double digits. If Brooklyn wants to win against the Kings they will need their other team members to step up.

The biggest roadblock for this Nets team has been injuries. Currently, Brooklyn has four players listed on their injury report. Headlining the unavailable players is Kevin Durant. The Nets have been without KD for some time now and his absence has proven to be detrimental to Brooklyn's success. If other players on the team can step up then the Nets should be able to turn things around.

Why The Kings Could Cover The Spread

The Sacramento Kings have been having a very disappointing season. Like every team in the league, they have had to battle through injuries and COVID absences. Through their first 52 games, they have only won 18 and have lost a staggering 34 of their matches. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of the New York Knicks by 20. The Kings significantly underperformed in what was a winnable matchup. Sacramento has been struggling to win games recently but will try and change that on Wednesday. The Kings will need to improve on their recent performances if they want to come out ahead against Brooklyn.

Sacramento has not looked competitive in their recent matches. Their game against the Knicks had the potential to be close but turned into a blowout by the end of the first half. The leading scorer for Sacramento, Tyrese Haliburton, only had 21 points and only three other players scored in the double digits. This has been a trend for the Kings who haven't had more than four players exceed double-digit scoring in their past four matches. If Sacramento wants to win games they need more players to step up.

One of the biggest things holding back this Kings team has been injuries. The Kings currently have three players listed on their injury report. De'Aron Fox is listed as questionable for Wednesday's matchup. Fox's presence on the court has a huge impact on the performance of the team. Marvin Bagley is listed as out for the game. These injuries have played a big role in Sacramento's struggles. If the Kings are going to win games without their best players they will need other roster members to fill the void.

Final Nets-Kings Prediction & Pick

This is not too difficult of a decision. Even though the Nets are without KD, the fact that they have Harden and Kyrie is more than enough to give them the edge here. Regardless of De'Aron Fox's availability, the Kings will struggle to keep pace with Brooklyn. These two teams are just different calibers, and that should become clear within the first half of the game. Pick the Nets to win and cover.
