Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in some close games lately. In their last game they managed to take down the Indiana Pacers, 100-98. In the game prior they took the Philadelphia 76ers to overtime and squeaked out a victory, winning 121-120. While they haven't been dominating opponents, winning these close games says a lot about a team. Minnesota has been coming up clutch in crunch time, and if this contest comes down to the final minutes the Wolves have shown that they have what it takes to persevere. The Wizards are a tough opponent, so if Minnesota wants to win this game they will need their best players to step up.

The face of the Timberwolves is Karl Anthony Towns. Even with the emergence of other talent on the roster, KAT remains the undeniable force behind Minnesota. In their victory over Indiana, the big man had 32 points and 8 rebounds. KAT is one of the NBA's new age centers that can score the ball from outside the paint, and has a huge offensive tool kit. On the season he is averaging nearly 24 points and 9 rebounds a game. If Washington wants to win this game they will need to contain the Wolves star. Towns is a beast and will look to dominate this game in any way he can.

While KAT has been phenomenal, the most talked about player on this team is Anthony Edwards. Last year's first overall pick in the draft continues to impress and step up his game. Against the Pacers, he had 21 points, 9 rebounds, and managed to grab three steals. This is far from atypical for Edwards who is averaging 22 points, seven rebounds, and nearly two steals per game. If Edwards can continue to impress then this Wolves team should have high hopes for the future. Minnesota is extremely talented and they match up very well against Washington. Regardless of the outcome, this will be a good game.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread

The Washington Wizards have been one of the surprising success stories of this season. They had one of the best offseasons of any team in the league. They are coming off a surprising loss to the San Antonio Spurs and will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday. Washington has beaten far tougher opponents than San Antonio, and after an embarrassing loss they will certainly step things up. The Timberwolves have been hot lately and the Wizards will try to put an end to that. Washington has the talent and ability to get a win at home on Wednesday.

Leading the way for the Wizards is Bradley Beal. Beal is one of the best scorers in the league. One reason that the Wizards lost to the Spurs was because Beal struggled to put up his usual offensive onslaught. He managed to put up 18 points and dish out 8 assists, but he just wasn't shooting the ball well. Beal averages 23 points and 6 assists a game and shoots nearly 44% from the field. If he can bounce back on Wednesday and have a big night then the Wizards should have no problem running away with this one. Expect the talented guard to step up on Wednesday as the Wizards return home.

Another big reason for this team's success has been Montrezl Harrell. Harrell had a tough scoring night against the Spurs, only putting up 6 points, but what he does for this team goes beyond statistics. Montrezl is a true hustle player that energizes this Wizards team and usually keeps them in games. On the season he is averaging over 16 points and 8 rebounds a game, while only playing an average of 27 minutes a game. Harrell will be one of the Wizards answers to the Wolves best players. Expect Montrezl to be given a lot of responsibility in this game and for him to step things up.

Final Timberwolves-Wizards Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty tough pick. The Timberwolves are hot right now and they managed to come out ahead of two very close games. On the other hand, the Wizards just suffered an embarrassing loss and will definitely come into this game aggressive and trying to dominate. Washington has proven that they are the better team this season and they should be your pick. Pick the Wizards to win and cover.
