Why The Wizards Cover The Spread

Bradley Beal and Spencer Dinwiddie have developed a nice backcourt chemistry this season, helping the Wizards to a hot start this season. Dinwiddie has been one of the better offseason acquisitions around the league. Dinwiddie is averaging 14.5 points and 5 assists, and mostly has provided a steadying backcourt presence on both ends of the floor. Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Montrezl Harrell have all also provided value after coming over from the Lakers, so the Wizards may want to send the Lakers a Christmas present for making the Russell Westbrook trade. Washington has impressively built chemistry quickly with their new-look unit.

Washington comes in as just slight favorites over the Spurs on Monday and could be in a good position for a cover and a win. The Wizards are 11-9 vs. the spread this season and 6-5 on the road outright.

Why The Spurs Can Cover The Spread

The Spurs may be a bit better than their record indicates so far this season, as their point differential is just -2.9. They are a young team who has struggled to close out games. Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson lead the way for the Spurs, and while both are promising young players, neither is a star. The Spurs will be at a talent disadvantage in this one, and as just slight underdogs it may not be the best play. San Antonio is just 3-6 at home this season, though they did pick up a home win on Saturday night vs. the Boston Celtics.

The Wizards are a much more dangerous team offensively than the Celtics, though, so the Spurs have their work cut out for them in this matchup. However, the Spurs are sneaky as they are capable of putting together a good gameplan with head coach Greg Popovich still at the helm.

Final Wizards-Spurs Prediction & Pick

Take the Wizards to cover and win on the road on Monday night. Washington will be looking for their third straight win in this one. They have been the much better group between these two teams all season. The Spurs don't quite have the fire power to match Washington if the Wizards are on. The Wizards feel like a really good bet to cover the slim margin while picking up the win here. The Wizards will look to keep rolling on Monday in a solid position for a cover and a win.
