The trade between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns could create a different avenue for forward/center Greg Monroe if the latter decides to buy him out upon completing the deal.

Teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Boston Celtics would immediately present themselves as strong candidates to make a run for the skilled lefty if he is bought out by Phoenix, according to Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post.

The Suns have every intention to grow through their young talent this season, and Monroe at power forward or center would get on the way of minutes for Alex Len, Marquese Chriss, and Dragan Bender over the course of the year — making him a likely candidate to be bought out.

Phoenix will also have to create a roster spot if they hope to transform the contract of starting point guard Mike James into a full-fledged NBA deal after signing a two-way contract earlier this offseason from the Northern Arizona Suns of the G League.

Monroe is unlikely to garner a starting spot at either destination, unfortunately, phased out by a league of stretch-fours and taller, lankier centers.

The Georgetown product is a very effective back-to-the-basket player that can get to the line confidently and finish with either hand comfortably around the rim, but won't offer enough shot-blocking to claim a spot at center or stretch the floor enough to warrant a start at the power forward slot.
