The Utah Jazz attempted to acquire Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley at the trade deadline, and they are apparently trying to get him again.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Jazz are the front-runners to acquire Conley during draft week. Charania notes that the Grizzlies are “intensifying talks” to potentially move Conley.

Conley is coming off a 2018-19 campaign in which he played 70 games and averaged 21.1 points, 6.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals over 33.5 minutes per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 84.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate basketball at Ohio State, was originally selected by Memphis with the fourth overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft.

Conley was a steady contributor for the Grizzlies over his first few seasons, but it took him quite some time before he began gaining recognition is one of the better point guards in basketball.

Unfortunately for Conley, right when that recognition began to occur, injuries came with it. He has not played 80 games in a single season since the 2012-13 campaign, and over the last four seasons, Conley has averaged just 51.8 games per year.

But with the Jazz desperate for another ball handler and a secondary scorer alongside of Donovan Mitchell, they seem to be willing to take the risk on Conley, who is due to make $32.5 million next season and has a $34.5 million player option for the 2020-21 campaign.
