New York Knicks big man Nerlens Noel made headlines on Tuesday after it was revealed that he had filed a $58+ million lawsuit against Klutch Sports and superagent Rich Paul. Apparently, there's more to this issue than what's on the surface, with reports now emerging that this lawsuit was actually a countermove by Noel in response to an earlier grievance complaint by Klutch Sports.

According to NBA insider Briand Windhorst of ESPN, Noel's lawsuit comes on the heels of Rich Paul's allegations that the veteran big man owes his agency $200,000 in unpaid commissions:

Noel took the action after Klutch recently filed a grievance with the National Basketball Players Association, claiming Noel hadn't paid $200,000 in commission on his previous one-year contract with the Knicks, multiple sources told ESPN.

Noel's lawsuit claims that he lost roughly $58 million in salaries from 2017 to 2020. During this period, he was being represented by Paul and Klutch Sports.

In 2017, Nerlens Noel turned down a massive $70 million offer from the Dallas Mavericks. He ended up pocketing just $13 million over the next four years. Noel is blaming Rich Paul for his significant losses and has decided to take the matter to court.

For his part, Paul, who made his name in the NBA as the agent of LeBron James, hasn't responded to Noel's shocking allegations. However, if it is true that Klutch Sports made the first move in the form of a $200,000 grievance complaint, then Noel's lawsuit could be considered as a countermeasure from his end.

Things are definitely getting messy here and it will interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months.
