Fergie made a lot of headlines on Sunday for her unique rendition of the National Anthem, which she sang before the start of the All-Star Game. The opinion of the public was divided after watching her performance, as it was both very awkward as well as unique, to say the least.

After all the criticism and trolling she received since, the Grammy Award winning singer has now broken her silence and has spoken about it. She admitted that she tried to make it sound very different. Fergie then added, via TMZ, that she is a risk-taker and intended for her rendition to be something special as she knows how big of a spectacle the NBA All-Star Game is. However, it was obviously not seen the same way by the public.

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA. I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

The players, coaches, and fans inside Staples Center on the night were all surprised with how The Black Eyed Peas member sang The Star Spangled Banner. It was a more eccentric version which made some of the game’s participants smile and hold their laughter as they couldn’t keep their emotions to themselves while listening to her. It was truly a memorable moment ahead of the match, which became a much talked about topic, especially on social media.

Here's a look at how Charles Barkley, Draymond Green, and the rest of the Twitterverse reacted to Fergie's rendition of the anthem.

Now that Fergie has shared her thoughts about her performance, it definitely explains why she took that approach to it. While it is one of the most unique versions of the National Anthem, she still deserves credit for remaining confident throughout the performance, and even staying true to herself being the artist that she is.
