Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon might already be a member of the Houston Rockets if not for a “last-minute hiccup,” per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Haynes reported Rockets players believed Gordon-to-Rockets was considered all but done just a few days ago. However, Gordon said he has no interest in joining a team in the midst of a rebuild, instead preferring to join a playoff contender.

The deal reportedly would have included Rockets guard Victor Oladipo, per Haynes, though he noted one insider said nothing was imminent:

One key party with knowledge of the talks disputed that it nearly reached the point of completion. It would have likely involved Victor Oladipo. However, any team that seeks a trade for the Orlando Magic versatile forward would prefer to have some assurances that Gordon would agree to an extension, sources said.

A swap involving Oladipo and Gordon would seem to make sense, provided the Rockets would kick in some draft capital.

Oladipo is on an expiring contract and would have no future in Orlando. But the Magic would get the draft picks, while the Rockets would be acquiring a forward who would seemingly fit well next to young center Christian Wood.

But such a deal appears to have fallen through. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Magic can complete a Gordon swap.

Haynes reported talks between the Magic and Portland Trail Blazers have “diminished,” adding the Denver Nuggets are not in “desperation” mode when it comes to acquiring Gordon or anyone else.

Gordon has requested a trade, but is also under contract through next season. Perhaps the Magic try again this summer.
