The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to try to orchestrate a four-team trade that would allow them to acquire D'Angelo Russell from the Golden State Warriors. Timberwolves small forward Andrew Wiggins would have to be included in almost any Russell trade package, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks are also involved in the talks. Timberwolves swingman Robert Covington would be sent to the Rockets, Houston center Clint Capela would get dealt to the Hawks and then potentially two first-round picks and an expiring contract would go to Minnesota.

The Timberwolves would then use those picks to acquire Russell from the Warriors.

Wiggins is averaging 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Timberwolves this season in 41 games. The former No. 1 overall pick is shooting 44.4 percent from the field, 33.0 percent from beyond the arc and 72.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves have been trying to acquire Russell since this past summer. He's very close friends with Minnesota All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

Wiggins signed a five-year, $147.7 million extension with the Timberwolves in the summer of 2017. He's making $27,504,630 this season.

Minnesota is clearly desperate to shake things up given its 15-34 record. Golden State, meanwhile, might want to keep Russell past the deadline to see how he meshes with Stephen Curry.

The Warriors may be willing to do a deal if they can get some prime assets in return, but that Wiggins contract would be tough to swallow.

Golden State is going to miss the playoffs this season for the first time in the Steve Kerr era. Kerr joined the Warriors in the summer of 2014, replacing Mark Jackson. The Dubs have gone to five NBA Finals under Kerr and won three titles.

Wiggins has yet to live up to the hype of being a No. 1 overall pick. Could his journey continue in Golden State next? Only time will tell.
