As trade talks heat up in the 24 hours preceding the NBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been active in attempting to acquire Andre Iguodala from the Memphis Grizzlies.

However, with the Miami Heat reportedly nearing a deal to acquire the veteran, it appears that the Lakers' “last Hail Mary attempt” has fallen short, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Iguodala has notoriously chosen to sit out the early portion of the 2019-20 season after being dealt to the Grizzlies during the summer. He was a vital cog in the system of the Golden State Warriors, who were forced to reallocate his salary.

Now with his interest in returning realized, multiple teams have reportedly reached out to Memphis about acquiring Iguodala. The Lakers have sought ways to improve their roster at the deadline, even as they enter Wednesday with the best mark in the Western Conference at 38-11 record.

Even at age 36, it's clear that Iguodala is viewed as a potential game-changer, as Los Angeles gets ready to make a deep playoff run. It is not yet known what the team offered in its attempts to bring Iguodala aboard, but it appears that he will finish out the 2019-20 campaign with a uniform that is not the Lakers'.

With Andre Iguodala set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end, the Lakers could always make its pitch for him to return for a 17th season. However, they are now expected to focus on their other targets as they aim to bolster their roster.
