The San Antonio Spurs have been listening to offers for veteran swingman Rudy Gay, but their asking price has been deemed “too high” by inquiring front offices, according to Jabari Young of CNBC.

The Spurs are open to part ways with Gay, but they are waiting for an offer that might just not come before the Feb. 6 trade deadline expires in a few days.

“If they get a nice asset back, I think they would do something with Rudy Gay, but I think their asking price is too high,” said a league executive.

Gay is averaging 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season, used as a second-unit cog that can help them with scoring and the occasional flash of defensive intangibles.

“Rudy still has something in his tank,” said an NBA scout, who added teams aroudn the league are by no means dying to help San Antonio, a franchise had dominated the league throughout Gregg Popovich’s tenure as head coach.

Gay has some value as an experienced veteran, a decent shooter, and a smart basketball player that has managed to stick in the Spurs rotation, even if he didn't get the chance to start.

The 33-year-old has struggled with his shooting this season, making only 31.7% of his threes after he knocked them down at a 40.2% clip last season when he started in 51 of his 69 games with the team.

The Spurs are trying to get younger and add some draft assets, but it's still unclear what the franchise is demanding in return for Gay.
