The Philadelphia 76ers still haven't had any luck trading disgruntled star Ben Simmons due to Daryl Morey's desire to acquire nothing less than a superstar for the Aussie. Well, it appears the Sixers were actually in discussions with the Atlanta Hawks over a blockbuster deal, but the Hawks weren't the least bit interested in acquiring Tobias Harris, who was one of the pieces said to be included.

The 76ers and Hawks briefly kicked around a trade of Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris for John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari, league sources told HoopsHype. However, those talks stalled quickly, with Atlanta uninterested in Harris and unlikely to be able to flip him to a third team.

The Sixers getting three decent players in return for Simmons and Harris wouldn't have been bad by any means, but to be honest, it wouldn't have made them a title contender. Joel Embiid needs a legitimate running mate in order to take this team to new heights. Someone like James Harden, who is reportedly interested in the idea of playing alongside Embiid.

This entire saga with Simmons is expected to go well into the summer, and it certainly does feel like Morey has his eyes set on Harden now. The Beard didn't sign an extension with the Nets in the offseason and appears to be open on a new venture.

The Sixers need to make sure the Simmons trade, when it happens, is the correct one, because it's going to be the difference between just being one of the better teams in the East to actually competing for a championship.
