One NBA executive thinks Golden State Warriors point guard D'Angelo Russell will get traded in the summer instead of this week during the trade deadline.

The Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks are said to be pursuing a Russell trade.

One league executive told HoopsHype: “To be honest, I think D’Angelo Russell gets moved over the summer – not right now. The Warriors may try to package Russell and their 2020 first-round pick for a star since they’ll be in win-now mode next year.”

In 32 games for the Warriors this season, Russell is averaging 23.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists. The lefty is shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Russell signed a four-year deal with the Warriors this past offseason as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets involving Kevin Durant.

The Warriors are going to miss the playoffs this season for the first time in Steve Kerr era. Kerr joined the Dubs in the summer of 2014. He replaced Mark Jackson and has guided the Warriors to five NBA finals and three championships.

The Warriors have no players going to the All-Star game this season for the first time since 2012. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have been out with injuries, Kevin Durant is no longer on the team, while Draymond Green and Russell aren’t having All-Star caliber seasons.
