Basketball fans, particularly of the NBA, are some of the craziest in world.

Not only is their support unwavering and passion unmatched, many are even willing to go to great lengths just to remain loyal to their favorite player.

Don’t believe me? Go to any sports social media page and scour through the comments section – you should see several fans debating on who the greatest player of all time is and why they’re the best, all while simultaneously hurling insults along the way.

This fervor is what makes these fan bases so special; but who among them is the craziest?

Alex Kennedy of Hoopshype attempts to answer this eternal question by asking input from several NBA writers.

For those of you that don’t want to read through the whole article, here’s an anecdote that perfectly sums up its message:

Michael Lee, who is a senior NBA writer for Yahoo Sports: “Among the active players, it’s LeBron. I don’t think anyone comes close to him in terms of the active players. He’s in a class by himself. I think the fact that he switched teams multiple times means a lot of his fans are supporters of him rather than the teams he was on. They’re going to root for him no matter what jersey he puts on. Also, LeBron came up with social media, so it makes sense that he has a ton of supporters on Twitter. With that said, Kobe clearly has the largest army of anybody. LeBron is the leader of active players, but Kobe is the overall leader. He has the most stans, and I think his stans are the most active too.”

Kennedy, who refers to these die-hard fans as stans, basically says Kobe and LeBron fanatics are the most intense. This isn’t surprising as they are the top two most popular players in this generation.

Each have their own legion of supporters, are constantly compared, and pitted against one another, which only adds fire to every debate.

Having this craziness around only adds a special dimension to watching sports. After all, the NBA is built on this passion and its good to see how even fans are getting in on the act.
