Philadelphia 76ers forward/center Nerlens Noel is set to have surgery to address an inflamed plica above his left knee, the team announced Friday.

The announcement comes on the same night that Jahlil Okafor made his preseason debut, logging eight minutes and making his only field goal taken during the Sixers' 113-110 win over the Miami Heat.

Noel will have his left knee scoped during a 10-minute procedure. The inflammation from it won’t cause additional damage, but will bring some pain. A timetable for his return is yet to be determined.

“I feel bad, especially that it’s the beginning of the season,” teammate Joel Embiid said of Noel to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “Everybody wants to play at the beginning of the season. But I’m sure he’s going to work on his rehab and come back stronger.”

The 22-year-old first reported soreness in his left knee during the Sixers' first preseason game against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 4.

Nerlens Noel gave his team a statistical combo platter last season averaging 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. Okafor and Embiid can potentially share the floor during Noel's absence, with Okafor getting the bulk of the minutes due to Embiid's restriction.
