Even if this year’s free agency has not officially started yet, there are already a number of teams emerging as having strong interest in signing Andre Iguodala. The L.A. Clippers, Boston Celtics, Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs are just some of the franchises being linked to him, but there’s another team that has recently been reported planning to bring him to their fold as well.

The Brooklyn Nets apparently also have their eyes set on the 33-year-old swingman, as they suddenly have a very young team, and want a veteran leader to guide their players and help bring out the best in them. General manager Sean Marks confirmed the rumors, via Brian Lewis of the New York Post, by saying that they are placing themselves in the best position to add players on their wish list, which includes the Golden State Warriors forward.

“You position yourself for opportunities that may happen. There’s plenty of these opportunities around the league. Who knows what’s going to happen in the next three weeks? We don’t know. So I think it’s us being strategic, being patient and hopefully capitalizing when we have the opportunity to do so.”

Marks understands that landing his services is going to be tough, but he also said that they are ready for anything that comes their way in free agency. With cap space to work with, they are open to going after not just one free agent, and trying to add the most talent they can get to their current lineup.

“We’re going to keep all our things in our back pocket and we’ll see what happens, whether it’s restricted free agents, free agency or whether it’s… capitalizing on some other trades that come up.  We’re focused on all of those things. We’re not going to limit ourselves to one.”

This definitely says a lot about their front office’s desire to become a winning group again soon. They finished this past season with the worst record in the league, and would not want that to happen to them once more, which gives them more reason to chase Iguodala. They have a strong belief that he can be a key piece in turning their fortunes around, especially with his championship experience and being named a Finals MVP two years ago.

The Nets may only have a slim chance of convincing him to bring his talents to Brooklyn, but they have the promise of letting him be the focal point of their offense and be the main man for them, which could play to their advantage, as Iguodala has been a sixth man for the Dubs since his arrival in Oakland in 2013.
