Free agent center Alan Williams will re-sign a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets after a potential deal with the Chinese Basketball Association went sideways, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The man known as “Big Sauce” is expected to suit up for Brooklyn on Friday for a matchup against the Toronto Raptors.
Williams will have a tough time finding court time this season, with the Nets now having a staple at center in Jarrett Allen and two backups in Ed Davis and Kenneth Faried.
An undersized center at 6-foot-8, Williams has nifty footwork and a solid touch around the rim, but his skills could still be developed in the G League, where he figures to spend most of the time.
The 25-year-old center was leading the G League in rebounding before the Nets waived his contract at the start of the year after signing him on Sept. 24 to play for their affiliate in Long Island.
Williams would have struggled to earn more than $385,000 this season as a two-way player, as the G League base salary is only $77,500. China offered him the opportunity to make several million dollars, which led to the two parting ways amicably for understandable reasons.
Big Sauce averaged 21 points and 14.7 rebounds in 17 games with the Long Island Nets while shooting an effective 52 percent from the field.
