With many people still digesting the news of Blake Griffin signing with the Brooklyn Nets, the six-time All-Star has spoken out about why he chose Brooklyn as his new destination.

In an AMA with Bleacher Report, Griffin described his motives in choosing the Nets as coming from his admiration of Steve Nash and wanting to push for his first NBA championship.

“They have a need for a four-man. I've always had a lot of respect for Steve Nash and all of the guys that they have. Sean Marks has done great job there. It was a tough decision and I wanted to be on a team that was contending,” Blake Griffin explained.

He also commented on his friendship with former Los Angeles Clippers teammate DeAndre Jordan playing a factor in his decision to sign with the Nets.

“We go way back. Anybody who you're that familiar with it always makes it easier. That definitely played a part,” Griffin added.

Griffin's signing with the Nets was first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Sunday before being officially confirmed by Brooklyn on Monday morning.

The signing of Griffin adds further depth to the Nets' star-studded lineup,  which has seen them vault into championship favoritism.

It will be the Oklahoma City native's third team, having played eight seasons with the Clippers and the last three with the Detroit Pistons.

Coming off the back of an injury-plagued 2019-20 season in which he only suited up in 18 games, Griffin has only managed 20 games so far this season with a career low average of 12.3 points per game and a 36.5 percent shooting average.

He will get his first opportunity with his new side on Thursday when the Nets take on the Boston Celtics.
