The Brooklyn Nets have hired Jeff Peterson as Assistant General Manager, the team announced in a press release, per Bryan Lewis of The New York Post.

In the press release, Nets General Manager Sean Marks lauded Peterson's “extensive scouting and front office experience.” He, likewise, added that Peterson will be a great fit for their culture as they continue to build on their successful 2018-19 season.

Peterson replaces Trajan Langdon to fill in the role. Langdon recently became the GM for the New Orleans Pelicans, joining David Griffin in their front office.

Peterson, who played basketball in college, recently served as the Atlanta Hawks assistant GM over the past three seasons. He spent seven years overall in the franchise's front office, first starting out as a seasonal basketball operations assistant. Since then, he has climbed the ranks of the organization.

This upcoming off-season is certainly a crucial one for Brooklyn. All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell is hitting restricted free agency this summer. The Nets will surely pull off all the stops to keep him in Brooklyn after putting together the best campaign of his career.

The appeal of the New York label is still there. More importantly, they have finally turned their franchise around into a winning environment.

Big names like Kyrie Irving and, to an extent, Kevin Durant have been paired with the Nets on the rumor mill.
