The Brooklyn Nets received 1,000 calls by fans looking to buy tickets on the first day of free agency, according to Kavitha A. Davidson of The Athletic.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving verbally committed to signing with the Nets on the first day of free agency, as did DeAndre Jordan.

On June 30 alone, the first day of free agency, the team received 1,000 inbound calls by fans looking to buy tickets — a big deal for any team, let alone one that finished last in attendance last season. On that same day that it was reported Durant and Irving had chosen to come to Brooklyn, the team’s website saw a 675 percent spike in traffic. And in the first week of free agency, the Nets gained more than 100,000 new Instagram followers. The revamped roster has given fans reason to seek out and actively engage with the team, as its ticket sellers discovered.

The Nets aren't going to be title contenders in 2019-20 since Kevin Durant will likely miss the entire season recovering from his Achilles injury, but there's still going to be a lot of hype surrounding the team. With Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan joining a core headlined by Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets are widely expected to be a top-four team in the Eastern Conference.

Once Durant comes back in 2020, that's when Brooklyn will be deemed championship contenders. A case can be made Brooklyn has taken over New York City basketball, as the Knicks didn't land any star players in free agency and continue to be a walking disaster under owner James Dolan.
