The Brooklyn Nets are planning to give away 10,000 Kyrie Irving jerseys at their Oct. 25 game against the New York Knicks.

It's kind of ironic the Nets are choosing this game. All last season, reports stated Kyrie Irving was leaning toward signing with the Knicks in free agency. The All-Star point guard decided to sign with the Nets with his two close pals, Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jordan.

Irving grew up in New Jersey and was a Nets fan as a kid. He will be the leader of Brooklyn next season since Durant is expected to miss the entire year recovering from his Achilles injury.

Kyrie averaged 23.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.9 assists last season for the Boston Celtics while shooting 48.7 percent from the field, 40.1 percent from beyond the arc and 87.3 percent from the free-throw line. Irving is replacing D’Angelo Russell as the Nets’ point guard. Uncle Drew made the All-NBA second team last season and is a six-time All-Star.

After missing out on Irving and Durant in free agency, the Knicks used their cap space on Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, Elfrid Payton, Wayne Ellington and Reggie Bullock. New York should be more competitive next season, but the Nets currently run the city with their new revamped roster.
