While the Brooklyn Nets have been one of the least successful teams in the NBA the last few years, they still boast of a roster packed with potential. 24-year-old swingman Caris LeVert is one of those prospects, and as it turns out, his teammates are betting on the incoming third-year man to have a breakout season this term.

Brooklyn newcomer Jared Dudley had nothing but good things to say about his new teammate, per Michael Scotto of The Athletic.

“I haven’t seen anyone guard him in here in the last couple of weeks,” Dudley said, per  “He’s scoring at will. He’s athletic. When it comes to the conditioning test, he’s one of the fastest we have here. I didn’t know he could handle the rock. His ball-handling is better than I thought it was. He can shoot off the dribble.”

For star point guard D'Angelo Russell, LeVert's effort and energy are two things that make the 6-foot-7 swingman stand out.

“I think he makes something out of nothing,” Russell said. “I think that’s the best way to explain him. You can run plays for him, you can shy away from him, whatever it may be, but he’s still going to find a way to make a play. If that’s him getting that extra rebound, kicking it out, if that’s him diving on the floor for the ball if that’s him getting to the rim when guys were forcing him to shoot it if he’s shooting if they’re not allowing him to the rim. He’s made that step, all in general.”

LeVert has done so well for himself over the summer that even head coach Kenny Atkinson has taken notice.

“I don’t know about the same usage rate (as last season), but he’d be up there,” Atkinson said. “I believe in multiple ball-handlers. I think it’s tough to guard. First two days of training camp he’s been fantastic, quite honestly. I’m going to call it like it is.”

The Nets may have another forgettable year this coming season, but feel-good stories like this make things much more bearable for the Brooklyn faithful.
