Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell reportedly told police the marijuana he was caught with at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday was his brother's, according to Stefan Bondy and Thomas Tracy of the New York Daily News.

Russell was was caught with marijuana during a routine search of his luggage. The Nets guard received a summons for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. He was flying from New York to his hometown of Louisville.

When questioned by police, Russell claimed it was his brother’s bag, a source with knowledge told the Daily News. More weed was discovered inside a Santa Cruz Shredder, a source said, which is commonly used to grind pot.

Even if he pleads guilty in Queens criminal court, Russell may not face punishment from the NBA since there’s no suspension until a third violation of its marijuana policy.

Russell becomes a restricted free agent this summer. The lefty made his first All-Star team this season and helped the Nets make the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Russell, 23, averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game this season for the Nets, who lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs in five games. DLo shot 43.4 percent from the floor, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.
