Former No. 2 overall pick D'Angelo Russell led the way for the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, finishing with 21 points and 13 assists to propel them to a 111-106 win against his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Nets' victory officially eliminated the Lakers from playoff contention, and people can't stop thinking about the idea that the Lakers made a mistake by trading the All-Star guard a couple of years ago.

But Russell has already moved on, and he wants the fans to do so too. He made it clear that he wants to stay with Brooklyn for a long time, and his Laker days should already be forgotten.

“I plan on being in Brooklyn for a long time and you could forget about my Laker days if I do it right and make new headlines. That's my goal.”

Russell even took a shot at the Lakers management, saying they will be willing to trade anyone just to get the players that they want.

“It's the type of organization that will trade you to bring in what they want.”

Russell believes that that's not the case for Brooklyn, as he feels the players and coaches they have right now “will be there for a while.”

The Lakers' aspirations of landing big-name superstars continue to hurt their franchise, as the players they chose to let go are having career years with their new teams. Russell has been impressive with the Nets, and if you ask him, he doesn't want to go back and deal with all the drama in Los Angeles.

Russell just wants to play basketball, and that's the opportunity given to him in Brooklyn.
