Free agent guard Jamal Crawford has reportedly agreed to sign with the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the NBA restart, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Crawford had remained unsigned throughout the 2019-20 campaign, though he never lost hope in finding a new home. Fortunately for him, the Nets needed bodies in Orlando after an exodus of players due to various reasons.

The Nets are coming into the NBA restart as the team clearly most depleted in terms of their top talent. They already have stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant not playing because of injury.

Their fellow offseason signee center DeAndre Jordan is also sitting out due to testing positive for the coronavirus. The status of their lead guard Spencer Dinwiddie was still up in the air a few weeks ago, but now he will also sit out after testing positive for the virus again during a more recent run of testing.

Joining them on the sidelines (or should I say couch at home?) is veteran Taurean Prince, who is yet another Brooklyn Nets player to test positive for COVID-19.

Jamal Crawford could have definitely been useful for a contender as an instant offense kind of bench contributor. But the former sixth man of the year awardee apparently wants a bigger role.

Crawford will definitely have that in Brooklyn. The career 14.6 PPG scorer will definitely have the green light to fire away given that almost all of the Nets' primary scoring threats will be out of commission.

Jamal hasn't played in an NBA game this season, last playing 64 games for the Phoenix Suns the previous year.

He averaged 7.9 points and 3.6 assists per game on 39.7% shooting from the field. This broke a 16-year streak of Jamal Crawford averaging in the double figures in nightly offensive production.

The Nets are almost certainly a non-factor for the rest of the Eastern Conference. They might still squeak into the playoffs given that the Wizards will be playing without Bradley Beal as well.

We may see a few wild scoring nights from Jamal Crawford on the Nets.
