Jared Dudley wound up in the place he once sought out two years ago because of head coach Kenny Atkinson, getting traded to the Brooklyn Nets alongside a 2021 second-round pick for forward Darrell Arthur.

Now in Brooklyn, the newest Net refereed to point guard D'Angelo Russell and center Jarrett Allen as “cornerstones” of the franchise, despite both players having played only a year for the organization, according to Anthony Puccio of Nets Daily.

“You think about D’Angelo Russell and the talent he has being a lefty coming from the Lakers, everybody knows his scoring ability,” said Jared Dudley. “I think for him, and I talked to him on the phone, is how you can make your teammates better.”

Dudley reportedly reached out to Russell and challenged him to be a better leader — which will be the first stepping stone into him becoming a talisman for this team.

Russell has yet to be offered an extension of his rookie contract, as he will make a mere $7 million this season — a short deal of change for a franchise player.

Dudley moved onto Allen, who showed glimpses of talent as a shot-blocker and rebounder that is slowly flourishing at the offensive end of the floor.

“Jarrett Allen has the potential for him where he’s a big that can move side to side, block shots,” added Dudley. “I know he’s progressed over the last year and I think those two are the cornerstones. We have to play our roles around them.”

The Nets are in position to make more moves in 2019, already having freed up the cap room necessary to sign max-level stars once the 2019 free agency gets under way.
