Brooklyn Nets rookie Jarrett Allen is excited for his first season in the NBA. He’s also looking forward to working with Brooklyn’s shiny new point guard, D’Angelo Russell. In an interview with Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily.com, the 6-10 forward out of the Texas Longhorns program expressed his excitement over the chance of teaming up with Russell on offense, especially during pick-and-roll situations.

We didn’t get to see you in Summer League. What should we be excited about?

“Being 6’10” and athletic I’ll be doing a lot of pick-and -rolls with D’Angelo [Russell] – set him good screens, roll to the basket or pop and let him do his work and lob it up to me eventually.”

You bring up D’Angelo. What do you see from him?

“Nothing but good things. He’s great with the ball, makes good decisions and makes really good passes. He’s going to find me.”

The Nets didn’t get to see how Allen would play alongside Russell in the Summer League with the ex-Longhorn shelved with a hip injury. But his numbers from college and some scouting reports suggest that he’s a capable finisher around the rim, one who could be a valuable weapon for Russell to pass to during games.

Per Hoop-Math.com, Allen took 42.7 percent of his shots near the rim and made 71.1 of those shots. In addition, 57.3 percent of his shots around the basket was off of assists, which gives us the idea that he’s a good off-the-ball player on offense.

DraftExpress.com also counted Allen’s pick-and-roll offense as one of the player's main strengths.

Uses his mobility, hands and leaping ability to finish out of pick and roll. Nice touch around the rim.

In his lone season for Texas, Allen, 19,  averaged 13.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. He was taken 22nd overall from the recent 2017 NBA Draft.
