Brooklyn Nets big man Jarrett Allen hasn't spoken with point guard D'Angelo Russell this summer about free agency, but says he would take the talented lefty back “in a heartbeat.”

Russell becomes a restricted free agent this summer. If the Nets sign star point guard Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn could renounce Russell's free agent rights, making him an unrestricted free agent instead.

Allen knows Russell is going to make the best decision for himself, but is hoping DLo will be back with the Nets.

“I know he’s out doing his own thing right now,” Allen told J.D. Shaw of Hoops Rumors. “He has to figure out his own path right now, and I know him and his group are going to make the best decision for themselves.

“We would take him back in a heartbeat. He’s a leader. He led the team throughout everything that happened last year, with Spencer [Dinwiddie] and Caris [LeVert] going down to injury. He’s helped me tremendously grow as a player, so I would have him back in heartbeat.”

Russell made his first All-Star team in 2018-19. He averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. Russell led the Nets to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

The Nets want to sign Irving and Kevin Durant this summer. For that to happen, they will likely have to let Russell go.

Russell will likely garner interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic this offseason on the open market.
