Like a lot of other NBA players, Brooklyn Nets big man Jarrett Allen is using the offseason to hone various aspects of his craft. In fact, according to a report from Bryan Fonseca of NetsDaily, the former Texas Longhorns talent has been working on his three-point shooting.

Allen, now 20 years of age, knocked down 33 percent (5-of-15) of his shots from the perimeter in his rookie season with the Nets. He says he is getting up 50 to 100 shots a day now.

“I’ve been working in the gym a lot,” Jarrett Allen told NetsDaily. “Trying improve on my decision making. Then obviously shooting. You’ve got to work on shooting nowadays.

“(I’ve been working on it) literally every day. Shooting three’s, mid-range, everything. I would say I’m shooting at least 50 (three’s) a day. Almost one hundred.”

In the 80's and 90's, the NBA was full of bigs who dominated on the low block. Now, however, most team would rather employ a “stretch five,” which is a center who can shoot the long ball. Allen is well aware of this fact, and says he's ready to adapt.

“I want to get better at it,” Allen said with regards to shooting the long ball. “In the new NBA you have to be able to shoot. That’s really how the league is going right now, so, I need to adapt to the new age. I grew up watching back-to-the-basket. Now I’ve got to catch up with everything.”

Allen made 72 appearances with the Nets during their 2017-18 regular season campaign, racking up averages of 8.2 points on 58.9 percent shooting from the field (33.3 percent from downtown, as mentioned before), 5.4 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 20.0 minutes per outing.
