ESPN analyst Jay Williams says Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are more than friends and that the two stars are “like brothers,” a big reason why Durant decided to join the Brooklyn Nets with Irving.

Williams, who is very close with Durant and his camp, makes it seem like Durant wanted to play for the New York Knicks and that Irving's ability to convince KD to come to the Nets instead was the difference maker.

“I think they’re more than friends,’’ Williams said of Durant and Irving, via Marc Berman of The New York Post. “They’re like brothers. It’s not just like, ‘Hey we’re a friend.’ That relationship to him is very special.

“In the culture of basketball, people are trying to tear you apart and go different ways. They took the journey they had and they really understand each other. It came down to his relationship with Kyrie. It was a difference-maker, man. It’s not like: Here’s the Brooklyn Nets and that’s it. Kevin’s his own dude. His relationship with Kyrie was the differentiator to the whole thing.”

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant agreed to four-year deals with the Nets on the first day of free agency.

The Nets have officially taken over New York, as the Knicks didn't even get a meeting with the two All-Stars. Durant is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season recovering from his Achilles injury.
