Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Harris is way ahead of the game when it comes to welcoming former Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving. Not only that but Harris is also already sticking up for Irving, who remained in the spotlight for the better part of this past season due to his looming decision during free agency.

“Kyrie, he’s got a big personality,” Harris recently told Michael Scotto of The Athletic. “I think he’s one of these guys that’s misunderstood. I think the way that he’s construed in the media is probably going to paint him in a light that is not necessarily true.”

Of course, Harris has now become a teammate of Irving for the second time during his NBA playing career. The two previously spent time together as members of the Cavs.

“I had a lot of good times with him,” Harris added. “He’s a lot of fun to be around whether it’s hanging out, playing video games, grabbing a drink, whatever it might be.”

Although the Nets also managed to lure former Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors superstar forward Kevin Durant to Brooklyn this offseason, it will remain Irving's team in 2019-20. Durant notably suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the 2019 NBA Finals, effectively sidelining him for the upcoming campaign.

As for Harris, the up-and-comer will continue to serve as a serviceable role player for the Nets.
