Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Harris becomes an unrestricted free agent whenever the 2020 offseason period officially begins.

Harris, who has established himself as one of the best shooters in the league with the Nets after beginning his pro career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, says he would love to re-sign with Brooklyn:

“It would mean everything. I look back just over four years ago coming to Brooklyn, getting an opportunity to play here, to learn as a young player to play through my mistakes and be given a niche in this league. And I’ve always loved New York and I love living in Brooklyn,” Joe Harris told YES Network’s Michael Grady, via Nets Daily.

“Obviously, it’s a business at the end of the day and there are things you can’t control a lot of things that go on. My ideal scenario … that’s what it is for me.”

Harris will be a hot commodity on the open market given his shooting prowess. The Nets would be wise to re-sign the 28-year-old, as he's the perfect sharpshooter to roam around the arc while superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are operating and drawing multiple defenders.

Durant and Irving's constant need for defensive attention would free up Harris for a lot of open looks. He shot 41.2 percent from beyond the arc for the Nets in 2019-20 before the season was suspended due to COVID-19. Harris also averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists and improved his overall playmaking skills.

Prior to the NBA suspending the 2019-20 season, Harris was scheduled to make $7.6 million. He will likely get a nice pay raise on the open market and the Nets may have to overpay to keep him since he will probably be pursued by a bevy of teams.
